Last night was certainly weird.
Just a costume party at the Druid. The party was for Zeros or Heros or something I can't understand because the music was so f@#king loud I couldn't hear anything over it. This was a reminder that 1) I am getting old and 2) why I gave up bar life a long time ago.
Not a lot of people came dressed up. And I think the memo was misunderstood by some of those who did come 'attired". The theme was superheroes and while I admire Marlene Dietrich and Audrey Hepburn I don't think they qualify. I would like to think that great taste and style is a superpower but I am pretty sure it is not. And Lady Gaga? Really? At least come in one of her superhero looking outfits, not tight silver pants. Any queen can wear silver spandex (I am not implying that the Lady Gaga impersonator was in drag but really, who wears silver spandex except queens and Dazzler? Note to self: go as Dazzler next year.)
I am giving a pass to the guy who came as Hunter S. Thompson as portrayed by Johnny Depp in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". His costume and mannerisms were dead on. And we all know that Hunter was a sort of superhero....
Kudos to the crazy kids who did get all gussied up, especially Cowboy who came as Captain Sockerang (check out the picture of the guy in socks and a beard). Weirdest looking thing I saw last night and he deserved to win. And it was his birthday.
Peter Rochia as Rebus also won and he looked authentic. Check out the pictures if you don't believe me. I know they are blurry but they were taken by the inebriated in a bar with really f@$king loud music so cut me some slack.
Andrew went as The Shadow-he could pull it off with his height and voice-and I went as Arlene a waitress from True Blood. I got rid of the red wig when people stopped and stared on the street because 1)they thought I was a prostitute or 2)they thought I was in drag. After I lost the wig I was Sookie, not that it mattered. Three people knew who I was. And there will be NO pictures of me in that wig. EVER. Use you imagination.
There was a few parties that night in the Druid-a radio contest and a bachelorette and I forgot how drunk and crazy people could get. While standing outside with Shauna while she smoked it seemed that everyone wanted pictures or for us to be in pictures. She wasn't in costume and I looked like a typical waitress. Drunk people are funny.
All in all, a good time. And freaking weird.
