Drawing Things...

I started to draw some characters from the books that I have been reading, thinking that I would put them up with the reviews that I intend to do. Well, after a two months of drawing and cursing and drawing I actually have a few that I am ok with. Not what I was aspiring to but publishable, at least in a blog that no one reads.

Have you ever read something and thought that this would make an awesome TV show or movie? Well I do. I also 'see' the writing, not mystically but as styles of drawing. The Betsy Taylor Queen of the Vampires series by Mary Janice Davidson I saw acted out in Bruce Timm style animation.

Seriously.

The characters lend themselves to the highly stylized world or Bruce Timm or Darwyn Cooke. In my attempts to capture this vibe I have spent the last two months drawing my fingers to the bone, to no avail.

I cannot draw like Bruce Timm or Darwyn Cooke. No amount of white out or 'command-z' can alter this fact. I think I will cry now.

While I am weeping away my misspent July/August I would like to share three drawings of Betsy Taylor that aren't totally crap. It's actually the same drawing finished two different ways, one on the computer and one with a sharpie. I shall let my loyal reader tell me which looks better (or worse).
